“Ambassador Nikki Haley (…)continues to blithely ignore the murders of Palestinian protesters by the Israeli army and double down on defending the state’s violent apartheid”.

I agree that people need to speak out against oppression, instead of simply swallowing abuse and systemic racism and sexism. And I am no fan of the Trump administration, including Nikki Haley. But the author’s analysis of the situation in Israel is biased. There is systemic abuse and violence on both sides, especially Hamas, who murdered their political opposition in the Gaza Strip, so why call out only Israel?

Calling Israel “apartheid” is also an insult to South Africans, who fought to allow Africans to have political representation. Israel has, for a long time, had Arab political representation in the Knesset, so despite the obvious discrimination and conflict, it is not “apartheid”. The peace process has, sadly, been derailed by racists and extremists on both sides, who only want to annihilate the opposition.

Racists see “Jews” as the problem in the Middle East. I see it as more nuanced, especially when terror groups support radical right-wing fascist parties in the Palestinian territories. What a pity that Palestinian and Israeli moderates have no say in these matters.
